Biographical Information

Gregory L. Leatherbury, Jr. (Greg) obtained his Master of Law degree (LL.M) from New York University in taxation law, and has extensive experience in a broad range of practice areas, including real estate, corporate, tax, probate, and estate planning, including wills, trusts, durable powers of attorney and living wills..

REAL ESTATE DEVELOPMENT AND FINANCE:

Greg has extensive experience in the area of real estate transactions and development, including commercial and residential multi-family condominium developments. Greg’s office is located in South Baldwin County near the Gulf Coast, and represents developers throughout the development process, including formation of development entities, joint venture agreement, acquisition of properties, representations before the Orange Beach, Gulf Shores and Baldwin County political bodies for re-zonings and approvals of projects; preparation of condominium documents and filings with HUD in Washington under the Interstate Land Sales Fair Disclosure Act (if applicable). Greg also represents developers in the permitting process for various developments, including representation before the Army Corps of Engineers, Alabama Department of Environmental Management (ADEM) and U. S. Fish & Wildlife with respect to Alabama Beach Mouse and other endangered species. Greg is a member of the American College of Mortgage Counsel and has served on its National Board of Regents. Greg also handled the legal representation for developers that constructed the toll bridge and eight miles of roadway in South Baldwin County.

CORPORATE AND BUSINESS PRACTICE:

Greg has vast experience over the years in business and commercial law, business organizations, mergers and acquisitions. Many of Greg’s clients are families which own closely-held businesses, and Greg has handled all of the family matters, including the business, corporate, financing and business succession planning. Greg served on the Alabama Law Institute committees that prepared the Revised Alabama Business Corporation Act, the Limited Liability Company Act, and is currently serving on the Business Entities Committee. Greg also served as Chairman of the University of Alabama Federal Tax Clinic and the Alabama Tax Institute Federal Tax Seminar.

ESTATE PLANNING, PROBATE AND ESTATE ADMINISTRATION:

Greg’s tax background has afforded him extensive practice in family estate planning, including family LLCs and LLPs, wills, trusts, life insurance trusts, CRUTS, CRATS, and administration of probate estates. Greg is included in the book The Best Lawyers in America in the fields of tax law and trusts and estates and is a member of the Mobile Estate Planning Council.

GENERAL:

Greg was born in Mobile, Alabama and was admitted to the Alabama State Bar in 1973. He graduated from The University of Alabama, B.A. 1969, The University of Alabama School of Law, J.D. 1972, and New York University School of Law, LL.M. (Taxation) 1973. Greg now lives in Orange Beach, Alabama.
