Biographical Information

Katie Hammett Hassell is a Member in Hand Arendall Harrison Sale’s Mobile office. She practices both in Alabama and Mississippi. Her litigation practice is wide and varied, including transportation and other trucking litigation; OSHA disputes; mass tort; construction litigation; medical malpractice; premises liability; non-compete issues; and commercial litigation; and other general litigation matters. While at Hand Arendall Harrison Sale, Katie has tried several jury and non-jury cases and obtained a number of dismissals for clients. Katie has successfully counseled clients to resolution of cases throughout both Alabama and Mississippi.

Katie’s philosophy is to place her clients in the best position possible, whether that is a successful trial verdict or early resolution. The client’s best interest is always forefront of her analysis and strategy in any case.

Katie received her B.A., magna cum laude, from the University of South Alabama. While at South, Katie was elected SGA Vice President, as well as serving in several clubs and academic leadership positions. Katie received her J.D., magna cum laude, from the University of Alabama School of Law. While at Alabama, Katie served on the managing board of the Alabama Law Review and the John A. Campbell Moot Court Board. She authored School Shootings, Ceramic Tiles & Hazelwood: The Continuing Lessons of the Columbine Tragedy, 55 Ala. L. Rev. 393 (2004). She also received the Maynard, Cooper & Gale Best Junior Editor Award for her work on the law review. She was a Hugo Black Scholar, member of the Bench & Bar, and was selected for membership into the Order of the Coif.

Katie is married to her husband, Matt Hassell, who is an occupational therapist specializing in hand therapy. Her greatest joy is being a mom to her two young children, Anne Harlan (age 9) and Jennings (age 5), who attend St. Paul’s Episcopal School.
